A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed controversial Islamic preacher Mufti Kazi Ibrahim on a two-day remand in connection with a case filed under the Digital Security Act for making incendiary comments on social media.

Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Md Noman passed the order after police produced him before the court with ten day remand prayer.

Earlier, two separate cases were filed against Mufti Kazi Ibrahim at Mohammadpur Police Station – one under the Digital Security Act and the other for embezzlement and fraud.

The fraud case was filed by an individual named ZM Rana, while the Digital Security Act case was filed by the police Detective Branch.

The case filed by Rana accuses Ibrahim of embezzlement, extortion and fraud involving a school.

The Digital Security Act case was filed over incendiary comments made by Ibrahim on social media.
